What is RockHouse Live Media Productions?
RHLMP is a "quasi" in-house label and production unit that records live performances of artists in and out of our venue and makes the performances available for sale immediately after the show via a variety of media formats, and can also offer off-hours live tracking and mixing services. For live shows, there are normally no up-front costs to the artist, and RHLMP does a 50/50 net split with the artist after our hard costs. This is truly found money and creates a new revenue stream without any additional work on the part of the artist! Best of all, RHLMP seeks no publishing rights - only the exclusive right to sell the recordings at our venue and on our website, and on compilations which will be produced from time to time.
Where did this idea come from?
Zach Bair, founder and President of RockHouse Live, was previously founder and CEO of Immediatek, and simultaneously CEO of DiscLive, the pioneering company that recorded coast-to-coast for such bands as the Pixies, Kenny Loggins, Billy Idol, and many more major artists, including EdgeFest, the yearly concert put on by Dallas' KDGE 102.1 The Edge.
Most recently, Zach produced the DVD and subsequent television broadcase of platinum-selling Island recording artist Melissa Etheridge's "The Awakening Live." You can see a clip of the show here.
Building upon what he and his team learned at DiscLive, Zach utilizes his knowledge and experience and brings superior recording quality and increased output capability to RHLMP and a venue environment. How does it work?
There are a couple of ways to go about it.
LIVE "INSTANT" CD. If you want CDs you can sell immediately after the show to your fans, either at RockHouse or in another venue, we can make that happen. You have to agree that the recording is "live" and is "as is" - we will not have time to be choosy about song selection if you want your fans to buy a CD. The CD will be mixed and mastered on the fly by our top notch engineers and CDs will be made available within a few minutes after your performance on RockHouse Live Media imprinted units. This is not a problem for most artists.
If you are already scheduled to play at RockHouse, we will determine the immediate (venue) sales potential and then the online sales potential post-show and agree upon the number of CDs to be duplicated. We will ask that if for some reason our direct costs are not recovered night-of-show (materials and engineer), that amount will be deducted from any amount that you are to be paid for your performance. Once RHLMP's direct costs are recovered, we do a 50/50 split with the artist. Sales derived from our website will be paid out monthly, and any sales at the venue night of show above our costs will be paid out immediately. We do everything! All you do is help promote and get your fans excited. Note that we can also pre-sell CDs from our website (which you can link to) so that in many cases a lot of CDs can be sold before you even hit the stage!
LIVE RECORDING SESSION DURING NON-PRIME HOURS. Are you a good live band? Do you want a full demo or commercial CD at a fraction of the cost of going into the recording studio? RockHouse Live can record your performance between the hours of 4AM - 3PM daily. You bring your backline or use our drums, and we provide the engineer, stage, multitrack recording, and the expertise to make your performance sound right. Turn it up and create the same excitement that you do at a live show. Some of the best bands are "live" bands that simply don't have the same sound in the studio. In the past, our people have worked with artists such as Vertical Horizon, The Toadies, Staind, the Little River Band, Revelation Theory, George Clinton, and many others, and we can do the same for you. Reasonable hourly rates and per-song charges for mixing and mastering would apply. Inquire for more information; package deals are available.
DEMO CDs for COVER BANDS. Do you just need a good demo? We can help you there too. If you are scheduled to play at RockHouse, or are being considered, we can work out a swap whereby we will record and mix a set number of songs during your live show, and in exchange your guarantee to RockHouse will be discounted or eliminated (depending upon the number of songs you want to have recorded). Or, you can opt for the off-hours option, above, if you would rather have a more controlled environment and the ability to re-track.
Are there any bells and whistles?
Absolutely. We can have custom designed "Digi-Pak" or other CD packaging designed and printed for you in advance of your show, so your CDs are truly collectors' items (additional up-front costs may apply). In some cases with DiscLive for example, these limited edition CD sets end up being far more valuable than their asking price because of the collectibility factor.
We will also be offering "direct to digital device" delivery of performances, enhanced discs, and in the near future, we will be offering full "instant" DVD production which can also be sold to your fans at the show.
Why would someone want to do this?
It's very simple. Other than cost - which in most cases is next to nothing - the best thing that you can do is let your fan take home their experience. This lets you connect with your fans in a much more intimate way than ever before. They will put that CD in their car stereo on the way home and will relive each and every moment. This is a service that is not just for big bands, like some of the ones that the industry leaders had worked with, for example Kiss, Loverboy, Jewell, and others - but its for bands just like yours.
